Great Thick-knee
Esacus recurvirostris
A thick-headed, massive-billed plover. Greyish sandy above, white below, with a distinctly upturned-looking black and yellow bill, and enormous yellowish 'goggle' eyes with white spectacle-markings around them. Largely crepuscular and nocturnal. Spends the day drowsing in the full glare of sun on some baking hot sheet rock on a riverbed.
